MEDFORD - Sophomore Gabby Horner (Allentown, NJ) matched a career-high with five goals while adding an assist and two caused turnovers as the 14th-ranked Tufts women's lacrosse team won its regular-season home finale 14-8 over Bates in NESCAC play on Tuesday afternoon at Bello Field.

Eight members of the Tufts Class of 2012 were recognized on Seniors Day at Bello, and four them scored goals to help the Jumbos improve to 8-4 overall and 4-4 in the league. Bates, which had three goals and an assist from NESCAC leading scorer Joan O'Neill (Westwood, MA), fell to 6-6 overall and 2-6 in the conference.

Bates had early leads of 2-0 and 4-3. Senior co-captain Jenna Dannis (Milford, NH) and first-year Kathy Yannopoulos (Simsbury, CT) each had a goal and an assist for the Bobcats. Horner netted a pair for the Jumbos.

A four-goal run gave Tufts a 7-4 advantage with four minutes remaining until halftime. Junior Kerry Eaton (Norfolk, MA) notched back-to-back goals during the stretch. O'Neill scored with 38 seconds remaining until intermission to make it 7-5 Jumbos.

After the teams traded goals early in the first half, an unanswered string of five goals by the Jumbos put them in command 13-6. Horner scored twice and sophomore Kate Applegate (Chadds Ford, PA) added two goals and an assist during the decisive run that culminated at the 11:14 mark.

The Jumbo defense would hold Bates to three goals in the second half, two which came in the final eight minutes.

Eaton finished with three goals for Tufts, while senior Lara Kozin (Suffern, NY) had a goal and two assists. Senior Kelly Cakert (Sudbury, MA) added to her league-leading caused turnovers total with three more. Senior Emily Pillemer (Arlington, MA) collected five groundballs and junior Meg Boland (New Canaan, CT) grabbed four draws.
