Jumbo Women's Squash Loses Consolation Match to Colby at National Team Championships

First-year Paige Dahlman scored the lone Tufts victory

CAMBRIDGE - In their final match of Walker Division play at the Howe Cup National Team Championships on Sunday morning, Tufts was defeated 8-1 by NESCAC foe Colby College in consolation play at Harvard University. The match was the finale of the season for the Jumbos, who finished at 11-14.

The Walker "C" Division at Howe Cup featured teams ranked 17th through 24th nationally. Tufts is the #23 ranked team and was the seventh seed in the bracket. Colby was ranked 21st and was the Walker Cup's fifth seed.

The Tufts-Colby match featured three competitions that went five games and another that went four. The lone Jumbo win came in five, as first-year Paige Dahlman (Denver, CO) overcame a 2-0 deficit to win the #4 match. She had a 14-12 victory in the fourth game.

Colby had two wins in five games. In the second match, Jumbo junior Jessica Rubine (Cranston, RI) won the fourth game to tie the score 2-2, but Molly Parsons prevailed for Colby 11-2 in the fifth. At #5, Jumbo senior co-captain Alyse Vinoski (West Hartford, CT) was down 2-0, but won the next two games before losing 11-7 to Madeline Hunsicker in the fifth. Jumbo junior Hafsa Chaudhry (Westwood, MA) had a 13-11 win in the first game at #6, but dropped the next three to Elizabeth Brehman.

The College Squash Association Individuals Championships at Amherst will conclude the 2011-12 season next weekend (Mar. 2-4).
