Women's Squash Wins Walker Cup Consolation Match over Connecticut College, 6-3

Ann Bellinger added a win at #3 to the Tufts total

CAMBRIDGE - The Tufts women's squash team defeated Connecticut College, 6-3, in a consolation match of the Walker Division during the Howe Cup National Team Championships on Saturday night at Harvard University.

The Walker "C" Division at Howe Cup features teams ranked 17th through 24th nationally. Tufts is the #23 ranked team and seventh-seed in the bracket. Connecticut College is #22 nationally and sixth in the Walker bracket. Tufts will play another consolation match against #21 Colby on Sunday morning at 8:30 to conclude its weekend.

Tufts had lost to Connecticut College twice previously this season. On Saturday, Jumbo senior co-captain Mercedes Barba (New York, NY) won the #1 match in four games after falling behind 1-0. Two of her victories came by 12-10 scores. First-year Paige Dahlman (Denver, CO) also rallied from down 1-0 to win in four in the #4 match. She had a 13-11 victory in the fourth game.

Most of the matches were tightly contested between the teams. Tufts' biggest winner was senior co-captain Alyse Vinoski (West Hartford, CT) at #5 by 11-5, 11-7, 11-6 scores. Connecticut College wins in the second and sixth matches came in five games.
