CAMBRIDGE - The Tufts University women's swimming & diving team lost an exciting 156-144 dual meet at MIT on Saturday. The teams were separated by three points entering the final event - the 200 freestyle relay - in which MIT placed first and third to take the victory.
Senior tri-captain Megan Kono (LaGrange, IL) won two events at the meet, among six Jumbo victories overall. She was a 17:59.20 winner in the 1,650 freestyle, winning by 27 and a half seconds. In the 500, she won comfortably again with a 5:12.29 time.
In one-meter diving, Tufts first year Sami Bloom (Wilton, CT) narrowly defeated MIT's Beth Stavely. Bloom's 284.90 final score was half a point better than Stavely's 284.50. The two dueled again in three-meter, with Stavely earning victory.
Coach Nancy Bigelow's Jumbos had three first-year wins overall. In addition to Bloom, Jenny Hu (Oakland, CA) won the 200 breaststroke (2:30.52) by five seconds. Mia Greenwald (Park City, UT) also continued to win for Tufts with a 58.94 in the 100 butterfly.
Tufts junior Courtney Adams (Lake Forest, IL) beat MIT's Christy Rogers to the wall in the 100 freestyle, touching in 54.93 seconds for first.
The Jumbos now have a 3-4 dual meet mark heading into their Seniors Day meet at Hamilton Pool next Saturday against Wheaton.
