WILLIAMSTOWN - After their winter training trip to Florida, the Tufts women's swimming & diving team visited Williams College on Saturday for a tri-meet with the Ephs and the Wesleyan University Cardinals. The Jumbos split, winning 157-142 against Wesleyan and losing 195.5-99.5 against Williams.
Senior tri-captain Megan Kono (LaGrange, IL) had a terrific meet for the Jumbos, swimming well in four events. She placed third in the 200 freestyle (1:59.22), was second in the 500 freestyle (5:12.80), touched second again in the 1,000 freestyle (10:42.65) and capped it off by anchoring the 400 freestyle relay team to second (3:45.42).
Sophomore Christine Garvey (West Chester, PA) also earned a victory for the Jumbos, with her 4:49.68 touch taking the 400 individual medley. First year Taylor Lentz (Edina, MN) was the runner-up in the 100 breaststroke with a 1:10.71 time. She was also third in the 50 freestyle race, finishing in 25.82 seconds.
Junior Courtney Adams (Lake Forest, IL) was part of two solid relay performances. To begin the meet, she anchored the 200 medley relay that was third with a 1:54.50 time. That team included first year Jen Konick (Salem, OR), first year Jenny Hu (Oakland, CA) and junior Valerie Eacret (Goleta, CA). Adams later led off the 400 free foursome, followed by sophomore Aiai Ren (Acton, MA), junior Hannah Henderson (Portola Valley, CA) and Kono.
First year diver Sami Bloom (Wilton, CT) placed third in both events, scoring 228.60 in one-meter and 228.95 off the three-meter board. Hu also added a third-place effort in the 200 breaststroke, touching in 2:34.05.
Tufts competes next in a dual meet at MIT next Saturday.
