BABSON PARK -- Nine different players scored for visiting Tufts
University as they defeated the Babson College women's lacrosse
team, 19-13, on Tuesday afternoon at MacDowell Field. Ranked #12 by
the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA)
this week, Tufts was paced by senior attacker Emily Johnson
(Yarmouth, ME) who tallied six goals. With the win, Tufts
improves to 6-2 overall and the #9 ranked Beavers dip to 8-3.
Babson sophomore Trisha Babson (Duxbury, MA) put the Beavers on
the board just 20 seconds in with an unassisted goal to take the
1-0 lead. Tufts then scored the next three goals to put the Jumbos
up, 3-1. Junior Alyssa Hood (Newport, RI) was able to tie the game,
3-3, with two consecutive goals for Babson. Over the remaining 18
minutes in the half, the Jumbos went on a 6-1 run to take the 9-4
lead entering halftime. Johnson scored four of Tufts' six goals
during this span.
In the second half, Tufts continued their strong offense scoring
an additional 10 goals. The Beavers were able to get it to within
four, 11-7, with back to back goals from senior captains Kaitlyn
Pettengill (Hopkinton, MA) and Anna Collins (Winchester, MA), but
that was as close as Babson would get as Tufts went on to win,
19-13.
Johnson scored a game-high six goals to lead Tufts. She was
followed by sophomore Casey Egan (Massapequa, NY)
who scored four goals and added one assist. Sophomore Kelly Hyland (Acton, MA) scored two goals while first-year
Kerry Eaton (Norfolk, MA), sophomore Lara Kozin (Suffern, NY), senior Jenna Abelli
(Framingham, MA), sophomore Sterling Champion
(Lighthouse Point, FL), and first-year Kaitlyn Leidl (Califon, NJ) each chipped in with one goal apiece.
Kozin also finished with a game-high five assists for the Jumbos.
Sophomore Steph Perez (East Providence, RI) scored
two goals and picked up a game-high seven groundballs and four
caused turnovers.
Babson was led by Hood who finished with four goals and one
assist for five total points. Collins followed with three goals and
one assist and Pettengill finished with two goals. Trisha Babson
tallied one goal, three assists and a game-high six draw controls.
First-year Emma Locke (Boxford, MA) added two goals and first-year
Jamie Spang (Kennebunk, ME) finished with one goal and four draw
controls.
Babson junior goalkeeper Sarah Macary (Woodbury, CT) played the
full 60 minutes in net making nine total saves, and Tufts junior
Sara Bloom (Summit, NJ) also made nine saves in
the win for Tufts.
Tufts will next visit Trinity College for a NESCAC matchup on
Saturday at noon. The Bantams are NESCAC's only undefeated team
heading into a game at Wesleyan tomorrow. Babson returns to action
on Saturday afternoon when they host NEWMAC rival Springfield
College for a 1 pm game.
