HARTFORD – Junior Jamie
Love-Nichols (Cortez, CO) scored the lone goal of the game to
lead the visiting Tufts University Jumbos to a 1-0 win over the
Trinity College Bantams in New England Small College Athletic
Conference (NESCAC) women's soccer action this afternoon.
Coach Martha Whiting's Jumbos are on a roll with five straight
wins and a six-game unbeaten stretch (5-0-1). They improve to 6-2-2
overall and 4-1-1 in the conference, tied for second in the league
with nine points. The loss is Trinity's second of the year, as the
Bantams fall to 5-2-3 overall and 3-2-2 in the league.
Love-Nichols broke a scoreless tie early in the second half with
her second goal of the season, giving the Jumbos all the offense
they would need. First-year goalkeeper Kristin
Wright (Austin, TX) came up with nine saves to earn a shutout
in her first collegiate start. The Jumbos have not allowed a goal
during their current winning streak.
Trinity senior goalkeeper Emily Weedon (Wellesley, MA) started
in net for the Bantams, allowing no goals and making six stops,
while junior Lily Pepper (Princeton Junction, NJ) finished the game
for the Bantams, allowing one goal and saving three shots in the
final 45 minutes.
The Jumbos remain in conference play this week with a trip to
Connecticut College on Wednesday for a 4:00 tilt. Trinity will host
Eastern Connecticut State on Wednesday at 4 as well.
